As human beings we are not always able to verbalise what is happening to us, or express how we are feeling, this is especially true when we are stressed. Alternatively we may over verbalise, to hide our feelings and thoughts which need expression. Art offers a gentle and natural way to release and transform feelings and emotions. The art therapy process involves tapping and building internal resources and strengths, in order to reduce anxiety, develop resilience and increase self-confidence. Using art as a tool for self-expression our unconscious is given a voice through the artwork and over time, patterns of thoughts and behaviours may be revealed. It is through this dialogue that we are able to confront and creatively address difficult issues.
